Artisanal Mining

This core process is one of the newly designed core process organized under the MoM) following the new BPR studies during 2007/2008. The core process was designed to support the AM sub sector of Ethiopia by growing the utilization of the natural resource of the sector in line with the vision of the country, the Ministry of Mines”. It also supports the Artisanal miners and seller to participate in legal mining and transaction of precious minerals in order the AM sub-sector contribute in the national economy of the country.

The purpose of the core is to bring appropriate development of the mineral resources of AM Sub-sector of the country so as enable it brings overall economic development by providing coordinating technical and financial assistance to miners and other local peoples in order to improving their rural livelihood, reduce poverty, increased the mineral production, empower the vulnerable groups, to use as alternative non-farming for miners. This core is believed to be providing efficient and efficient custom service and enhance the economic development. This core process advocating the AM sub-sector can be act as driving force to; to reduce the poverty, supporting as alternative non-farm livelihood and contributed in the achieving plan for Accelerated and Sustained Development to End poverty (PASDEP). This work could be the key to future development of the country and improving the livelihood of the miners can be supported to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of the country in the coming ten years. The new design process is actively participating in delivering the new coordinating process designed vested by BPR studies.
